Lake Tahoe is only three hours from home. I am so lucky to be living within a day's drive. Located on the border of California and Nevada, high in the Sierra Mountains, it is a wonderful travel destination. We travel there mostly in the summer as we avoid snow driving in general which may require tire chains after heavy snow. Be sure to pack your digital camera before you leave home.
Lake Tahoe offers roadside vistas unmatched anywhere. The beautiful forest greens of Pine trees,Fir trees and mountain shrubs surround most of the lake offering numerous public and private beaches and parks. We usually take a picnic lunch and sit in the shade of the trees to absorb the natural wonder of the scenic beauty. Light and weather play a huge part in the reflective colors of the lake which change constantly from sunrise to sunset. It is a photographer's paradise.
Tahoe City is approximately at the elevation of 6250 feet. It is a great place to view the lake as well as to take a lake side walk. One side of the street offers lake vistas while the other side is shops small restaurants and galleries. It is a great spot to enjoy the best of both.We stop for coffee and sit on the patio absorbing sunshine and vistas in Tahoe City.
You can take your kayak or paddle Board and explore the shore side to your hearts content. Motorized boats have limitations so check the rules before hauling your boat to Lake Tahoe. The lake is being protected from pollution and is a protected environment. Last summer we saw many of the surf board paddlers everywhere. Teens love the freedom of a shore side adventure on the water.
Our favorite restaurant at the Sunnyside Resort is located on the West side of the lake. It is a resort which fronts the beach and dock area. You can enjoy lunch sitting out on the deck under umbrellas with the convenience of ordering from the grill and bar . I absolutely LOVE the view from this location which gives one an almost 180 degree view of the mystic and majestic lake. I will never forget the first time I visited this perfect scene with my husband on our honeymoon. It charmed me for years and I enjoy the quality of service offered to customers too.

Wow, I am jealous of you living near to such a beautiful lake and area. Where I am living is near to a big river, which is also beautiful, but I don't visit there a lot, maybe I should.
Yes Hui! Visit your river. Being near the water is such a complete refreshment to the Spirit. Taking a walk with a friend is the way to go!
